I am not even too sure why I decided to brave the London sales but for some reason I did. My anticipated shopping spree didn’t last too long and all I had on my mind all day was, “corr, I really fancy a burger”.
Which burger though? There are so many amazing places to get a burger in London these days, Tommi’s, Meat Liquor, Honest Burgers, Mother Flipper… the list is endless, however today I only had one place on my mind, Bar Boulud.
Anyone who knows a thing or two about London’s top burgers will without fail have Bar Boulud in their top 5. So what makes Bar Boulud’s burgers so special? Two things, the thick meat pattie and the soft brioche bun that manages to soak up every drip from the burger and the beautifully melted cheese with it. I have found that a lot of burger joints in London tend to have a rather thin pattie which often results in overcooking the meat, but Bar Boulud hits the nail on the head with its thick juicy pattie full of flavour and perfectly cooked.
There a few different burgers on the menu, my favourite is the Frenchie:
with confit pork belly, rocket, dijon, tomato compote, morbier cheese
Between two of us we ordered:
1 Pomme Frites
1 Super Green Spinach
1 Truffled Mashed Potato
1 Mushroom Fricassée
The bill wouldn’t have been too painful if we hadn’t had a bloody mary, gin and tonic, and a bottle of sparking water – which totted up to £25 alone! Our burgers were £12.75 each and sides £4.25 each. The creamed spinach was some of the best I have eaten in London, actually tasting of spinach instead of the cream overpowering. Next time I would leave out the mushroom fricassée and keep to the carbs and the “sort of” healthy spinach.
Straight up, those burgers from heaven. Cracking cocktail list, I’m told the champagne mojito’s are a winner. It’s Paul Ainsworths favourite place to dine in London.

See you soon Bar Boulud, despite living in East London – you are well worth the trip.
